Dance Movement Therapy and Dabke with Alya & Suhaib
Saturday, March 2nd, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, MVMNT Wellness Hub
Alya and Suhaib are back for another session!
DMT is the psychotherapeutic use of movement and dance to support mental, emotional, and physical functions of the body, It develops the traditional social function of movement and dance to increase personal evolution and social well-being, as in many cultures dance has been a way to support individuals in their communities.
Dabke is originally a functional social dance that supports collective culture. DMT uses collective dances, as a main tool for the well-being of the communities, such as Dabke which is an essential dance in our community. In addition to having a social role and function for community support, traditional dances are also carriers of history and culture; keeping them alive is a form of resistance against the erasure of cultural identity.
No background in dance is required to attend.
Facilitators:
• Alya Shehata, Certified Dance Movement Therapist
• Suhaib el Nasser, Dabke Dancer and Teacher
