Backbending w/ Alia Jumean

Experience level: Intermediate - Advanced
This session will include:
- Pranayama (breathing exercises), kriya (cleansing exercises) and seated meditation involving mantra recitation
- Warm-up: sun salutations and flexibility-based drills aimed at strengthening the back and front lines of the body. We will activate the glutes, hip flexors and the upper and middle back to wake up and fire our bodies for safe and efficient backbends
- Partner-assisted drills and assists to support each other and add some fun into the practice.
- Wind down, stretching, and yoga nidra-inspired savasana.

About Alia:
Alia is a certified 200-hour yoga Teacher, having received her training from one of the most accredited yoga schools internationally, Love and All is Coming. Alia started her yoga practice two years ago- simply as a means of stretching out the soreness of her intense workouts. And throughout this journey, it became about so much more than the physical! Alia’s approach is aimed at challenging the view that yoga is only about the asanas. She sees the asanas as a means to an end and a lens through which we can discover our innermost dedication, resilience, and commitment.
Alia’s practice is very much a mix of the teachings of her favorite lineage, Dharma Yoga (hello backbends!) combined with contortion-based active flexibility drills that engage all the muscles required to go deeper into the poses. Flexibility is the product of strength, and that is the entire basis of Alia’s teaching methodology.
